Boat automation. Reimagined.

Inspired by Apple. Built for yachts. AI in the core. 100% free and open source. A project, not a product — yet.

A note from the builder

Hi, I'm Mark.

I'm still a software engineer at heart, and having founded a few startups in Silicon Valley and now one in New York, we have moved back to Europe and I am getting ready to retire. I'm about to take delivery of my first catamaran, and planning a slow circumnavigation of the world.

I've spent months looking at the marine tech I'd put on it — chart-plotters, solar, batteries, automation, weather apps, anchor watches and systems management, and it was nothing but disappointment. Some pieces were fine on their own, others frankly archaic, but none of them work together, the user experience is a long way behind what I'm used to in the rest of my software life and none had really embraced AI.

So I'm building what I wished existed: 32 Degrees North — a complete platform of cloud services, and a full set of marine apps that work together, with AI built in, that any sailor can run on their own boat.

I have no interest in creating and running another startup, so I am releasing it all for free, complete with the source code.

The journey

From spec to anchor.

Here's what 32°N does, in order — four phases of life with the boat.

the hub install the brain · systems planning · systems discovery · configuration · security audit · data bus before you leave shore plan a better trip · routing (polars) · customs paperwork · piracy + orca intel · AI passage briefing while sailing sail with the AI · chartplotter · dynamic routing · live weather + tides · anti-piracy decoy · systems monitoring · auto logbook at anchor sleep well · anchor watch · remote monitoring · battery + tanks · alerts FROM SPEC TO ANCHOR

01 · The hub

Set up like an iPhone.

Plug in the hub. Hold up your phone. Bluetooth pairs it to your account, the hub finds every NMEA-2000 instrument on the boat, audits the network, and ties cloud, AI, and instruments into a single data layer. No manuals, no cables, no codes.

02 · Before you leave shore

Plan a better trip.

Weather windows that match your boat's polars. Customs paperwork pre-filled from your vessel docs. Live intel on every leg — piracy reports, orca-attack zones, port closures, NOTAMs.

03 · While sailing

Live on the boat.

Chartplotter, systems monitoring, anti-piracy decoys, AI vision, automation, live VHF-to-text with warnings on the instrument panel, automatic logbook.

04 · At anchor

Quiet on the hook.

Anchor watch reads weather, wind and tide together. Walk to the bar — the same dashboard rides in your pocket. The boat checks in; you don't have to.

Stay in the loop.

Occasional emails when something interesting ships. No marketing fluff.
